Why is it so goddamn cold?

Currently, we in Rochester are colder than Fairbanks, Alaska, and both cities are below zero. In-fucking-credible. Temps are as follows:

Rochester: -3° F
Fairbanks: -1° F

Outrageous. Add to that a 8 MPH wind and we have a wind chill of -17. Fairbanks has calm winds, and thusly it feels a hell of a lot colder here than in Alaska.

Also, Sackets Harbor, in the Watertown, NY area, is -19°F right now. That's colder than any place in Alaska currently, to my knowledge. Even Barrow, on the North Slope and bordering the Arctic Ocean, is only -6. And FYI, the wind chill in Sackets is trumping Barrow.

Just some mind-numbing (and extremity-numbing!) figures.

4:29 AM... update: we're all tied up now; Rochester and Fairbanks are equals at -4°F. This cold is getting way out of hand.

It's getting more and more difficult to find a reason to stay here, since there's no way we can all go into hibernation 'till April.
