Radio killed the video star(?)

I'm still all keyed-up from the band's appearance on the radio this morning. I got home about 10 minutes ago and I still feel pretty jittery. It was a great experience, and the host, Scott Regan is a super nice guy. We played four tunes, interspersed with questions posed by Scott. The other three guys did most of the talking, due in large part to me not having a microphone near me.

The studio was small and pretty cramped; it was a challenge to fit all four of us in there with our instruments (especially my bass). I was also a few feet away from the other guys and the DJ pointed his own mic at my bass.

We played Rovin' Gambler, Shady Grove, In The Pines and Father Get Ready When He Calls You. Scott thought we were really great and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the music, bobbing his head to the groove as we played. He let us plug our upcoming gigs, though we couldn't mention money/cover charges nor could we make a "call to action," such as "come on down," or "we'll see you right here." We could only give the details of the show... dates, locations and times.

I asked Heidi about the show afterwards, and she said the balance was rough... it was mainly banjo and vocals... everything else was kinda muddy, apparently. But the studio mics aren't designed to pickup instruments like a good AKG or Audio-Technica would.

We've got a busy three weekends in a row coming up and hopefully the radio show will help to bring some more people out.

And as an extra bit of news, Ben registered the varnishcooks.com domain name and re-directed it to the existing band homepage (which he has hosting for already). He's had to endure a couple rounds (or so) of my suggesting this/badgering him about the idea, but it's finally come to fruition. Catch all the information you can handle at www.varnishcooks.com

Soon to come: Varnish Cooks bumper-stickers and Varnish Cooks beer!
