This Just In: Your Government Doesn't Give A Shit About You

I paid $3.10 per gallon of gas a day and a half ago. Some local gas stations are up to $3.30 a gallon, and I've read that Atlanta is seeing over $5 a gallon. There are lines at stations and gas hoarding... we're sliding back in time to the early 70s. Will we have fuel rationing? Since wages won't go up, will someone put a cap on gas prices? Can we afford to drive to our jobs and schools? Who's getting rich off of this? Oil companies? Halliburton? Our administration? Hmm.

Meanwhile, thousands of fellow Americans are still stranded in New Orleans. Relief has arrived and slowly the military and aid organizations are giving out food and water, and bussing people out of the superdome. But for four days these people, who are mostly poor and black, and couldn't afford to leave and/or had no cars, were virtually abandoned. Thankfully they were abandoned on national TV, with on-the-scene reporters becoming enraged by what they witnessed, and giving politicians the third degree for feeding us the same old lines of bullshit. Rapper Kanye West declared at a benefit that "George Bush doesn't care about black people." Pretty serious indictment to be sure, but the race and class issue surrounding the tragedy in New Orleans can't be ignored. Will the total botching of the rescue and relief operations be the thing that sinks Bush and his horrible administration? I hope so!

Ryan,

Once again the media has led you down an erroneous path. The statistics now reveal that most of the people who died were not black and not poor. It was about statistically equal among races and income class. Hurricane Katrina did not know what race people were. Governor Blanco is enjoying her new office that she decorated for a half million dollars, it’s beautiful, maybe she should have used the money to help the poor people of New Orleans. Mayor Nagin (of the school bus fame) fears an election next month, his constituency all moved out and are prospering so well they do not want to come back. Bush’s poll numbers are going up, even though he doesn’t care about them. So it looks like the ones who have to worry about sinking from Katrina are the local democrats who ran the city and state for a long time. They should worry; they fiddled while the Big Easy sunk.

Don’t despair the media will create a whole new batch of images designed to make Bush look bad, doesn’t matter if they are true, the kool-aid drinkers will line up and say thank you. Republicans will go on to win elections and John Kerry will make bitter incomprehensible comments that only he seems to understand and doesn’t understand at the same time. You do know Bush had a better G.P.A. at Yale than Kerry did don’t you? Just another media distortion that came out late but didn’t matter anyways.
