The Varnish Cooks played our first gig with the full lineup last night at Starry Nights. It was a little raw (as Ben termed it) as Aaron and I were still memorizing some of the tunes. But it went as well as could be expected for a week's worth of cramming tunes. (that's only three practices in aforementioned week too!)
That said, it sounded great. We had a full room (not that coffee houses are generally huge, but you gotta start somewhere) and a very engaged audience. Lots of friends came and it seemed like everyone was attentive to and into the music, and had a good time. We had many fine compliments after the set too.
Since I joined the band not much more than a couple of weeks ago, we've found ourselves swimming in gigs. We went from a couple shows booked to seven, including a radio spot on WRUR. We're on the air with Scott Regan on his show, Open Tunings to pimp one of our shows. We'll even be doing some playing on the air... groovy.
So an auspicious beginning for the Cooks... from almost zero to booked into September! Huzzah!
